How to Choose: Black vs. Blue Modiwell Refill Bags?

During your travels using the Modiwell dry flush toilet, we frequently receive questions from users regarding the relationship between the colors of the refill bags. Don't worry! Today, we'll help you better understand the characteristics of the refill bags to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience every time you use them.

Important Notice: Temperature Reference for Modiwell Toilets

Please note that all temperatures mentioned below refer to the actual indoor or in-vehicle ambient temperature where the toilet is located, not the outdoor temperature.

Example: Even if the outdoor temperature is below freezing (e.g. -1°C / 30°F), as long as your RV or indoor space is heated and maintained at approximately 20°C (68°F), you can safely use blue, black, or white Modiwell refill bags.

Modiwell Refill Bag Color Comparison: Odor Control vs. Flexibility

Different refill bag colors are designed with slightly different priorities. The comparison below represents usage experience recommendations, not usage restrictions. Under normal temperature conditions, all Modiwell original refill bags can be used normally.

Refill Bag Type Recommended Temperature Range Key Advantages Trade-Offs
⚫ Black / ⚪ White 10°C – 40°C (50°F – 104°F) Excellent odor control
High-density material with superior odor blocking performance
More sensitive to low temperatures;
may become firmer in colder environments and could increase the likelihood of triggering the E4 safety protection mechanism
🔵 Blue 0°C – 40°C (32°F – 104°F) Higher flexibility;
remains smooth and flexible in colder environments
Standard odor control;
odor blocking performance is slightly lower than black/white bags

About the “E4” Code: A Safety Protection Feature

If you see an “E4” code during use, please rest assured — this does not indicate a malfunction. It means the toilet’s anti-pinch safety protection mechanism is operating as designed.

How it works: In colder environments, refill bag material may become firmer, which can increase friction. When the motor detects increased resistance, the system will automatically stop to prevent potential pinching and to protect the user.

Please note that the activation of the E4 safety mechanism in cold environments is probabilistic and not a guaranteed occurrence

Recommended action: In colder environments, switching to the blue refill bag can help reduce friction and lower the likelihood of triggering the E4 protection.

Practical Usage Recommendations Based on Ambient Temperature

Please refer to the table below based on the actual indoor or in-vehicle temperature where your toilet is used.

Usage Scenario Indoor / In-Vehicle Temperature Recommendation Reason
Warm / Heated Environment 10°C – 40°C (50°F – 104°F) Use blue, black, or white refill bags Ambient temperature is stable and warm, allowing smooth operation. You may choose based on personal preference and odor control needs.
Cool / Unheated Environment 0°C – 10°C (32°F – 50°F) Blue refill bag recommended Indoor temperatures may drop below 10 degrees Celsius, so it is recommended to use the blue bag continuously. This will prevent triggering the machine's protection mechanism and avoid frequent replacements.
Freezing Environment Below 0°C (32°F) Pause device usage 1. Toilet Battery: The battery power depletes very quickly at low temperatures, resulting in insufficient power. 2. Sealing: The heating element inside the toilet bowl cannot reach the temperature required to melt the plastic, leading to poor sealing.

We hope this guide helps you better understand how ambient temperature affects refill bag performance and overall device operation.
